A great way to learn about HTML is to look over the shoulder
of other Webpage creators. If you see a Website you like,
just view the page's source to see how it was done.
Methods for viewing source vary by browser, but it's usually as simple
as selecting View/Document Source or View/HTML Source
from the main menu.
Some Webpages are composed of extremely complex
HTML, many incorporate Java, JavaScript, and other
technologies as well. Stick with fairly simple
sites to begin with.
When viewing source code, you'll
sometimes see comments from the page's author near the top
of (or scattered throughout) the file. These are inserted with
the <COMMENT> or <!-- --> or // tag and often contain useful
information for those who view it.
»Use the right Graphics
Graphics are a vital part of any web page.
Do it right and your visitors will sit up and notice
you. Your page will stand out from the millions of other pages on the Internet.
Do it wrong and you'll have a bunch of half blinded
visitors who won't want to come back in a hurry!
Too many flashing animations, graphics with
jagged edges, wrong colour combinations can all
make your pages annoying and hard to read.
Use our handy Colour Table when choosing your colours.
»Visitor Feedback
The most valuable advice you'll ever get is from your visitors.
Provide visitors with a means to send you feedback on the bottom or top of every page.
»Final Words
If you're starting a homepage from scratch make it simple and enhance it
as your level of experience increases. Simple format means easy modifications.
Welcome to the world of HTML, have fun!
